Richard John Clarke
Richard Clarke, Sr. passed away at his home west of town Sunday afternoon from the effects of a paralytic stroke which had affected his right side. He was 76 years old. All the family was at his bedside when he succumbed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home, Rev. Mercer officiating, and interment in the family lot at Cedar Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Chas. Bucek, John Coffin, Frank E. Stangler, Frank E. Taylor, Mort and Bert Warner.
John Richard Clarke was born Sept. 13, 1870, on the farm northeast of Elysian known as the old Wagner home, later moving with his parents, William and Helena (Fitzgibbon) Clarke to the homestead a mile west of the village. His marriage to Blanche Warner of Elysian took place at Le Center on Dec. 26, 1907.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Richard W. and Joseph W., three daughters, Margaret M. and Mildred M. all of Elysian, and Mrs. Alvin (Blanche) Roemhildt of Iosco; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. H. I. Miner of Minneapolis, and two brothers, James F. Clarke of Garden City, and Charles P. Clarke of Atlanta, Ga.
Deceased was one of the substantial farmers of Elysian Township where he lived all his life, and active in his farm operations until first stricken ill three years ago.
