GREENVILLE — Funeral services have been planned for a City of Greenville official, killed on the Labor Day holiday in a three-vehicle wreck in southern Hunt County.

Services for Larry Olson, 65, who had served as the superintendent of the Greenville water treatment plant, are scheduled for Friday afternoon at First Baptist Church.

He was born in Bosque Co., Texas to Leonard Wesley Olson and Nina Mae Goyne Olson.

One person was injured in the accident, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Monday.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Olson was riding a motorcycle southbound on U.S. Highway 69 and was approaching the intersection of Farm-To-Market Road 1564, where a northbound Ford F150 pickup truck had collided with the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, forcing the Silverado into the southbound lanes where it collided with Olson's motorcycle.

Olson was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Silverado was transported in good condition to the Hunt Regional Healthcare Center hospital in Greenville.

It was the second fatal accident at the intersection in 10 days.




GREENVILLE — Leonard Larry Olson, 65, passed away Sept. 6, 2010, in Greenville. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Greenville under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Blankenship will be officiating.

Interment will follow at McWright Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Olson was born Aug. 21, 1945, in Meridian, Texas, to Leonard W. and Nina Goyne Olson. He married Geneva Lindsey on Aug. 4, 1973 in Iredell.

He served in the Texas National Guard for six years.

Mr. Olson was the former city manager for Meridian and Hamilton cities and also worked for the City of Greenville as superintendent of water utilities until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as deacon.

His survivors include his wife, Geneva Olson of Greenville; his mother, Nina Olson of Arlington; daughters Gena Douglas and husband Trey of Mansfield, Niki Olson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Linda Olson of Arlington; brother Roy Dale Olson and wife Jackie of Arlington; grandchildren Taylor and Drew Douglas of Mansfield; nephews Josh and Jared Olson of Arlington and a myriad of loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Pallbearers will be Trey Douglas, Jim Goddard, Michael Hackney, Jack Harper, Glenn Meyers and Vince Shaver.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2703 Wesley Street, Greenville, 75401.
