April 2, 1983 "Joplin Globe"
Joplin, Missouri
Shella Jean Ash, 54, of Joplin died Friday at St. John's Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 27, 1929 in Joplin to Irlie Garfield and Hazel Rae (Myers) Fanning. She had been employed at Hornaday's Department Store. She married James R. Ash on February 1, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. He survives. Also surviving are her son, Gregg Ash of Neosho; her daughters, Dianne West and Stacy Miller, both of Joplin; her mother, Hazel Rae Fanning of Joplin; her brother, Irlie Garfield "Doc" Fanning, Jr. of Joplin; her sister, Betty Dean Purcell of Murray, Kentucky; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Gene Hutchcraft officiating. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park.
