h/o Mary Brady, m. 21 Aug 1857, Rhea, Tennessee

Civil War Confederate Veteran

John Peoples Moulton (8-5-1834 to 5-6-1918)

John Peoples Moulton was born in Meigs County, TN near Ten Mile Stand, the second child of eleven children born to Noble N. and Mary Peoples Moulton.

He was a farmer most of his life. A very active and enterprising man, John was 6 ft. 4 in. and weighed about 200 lbs. In 1862 he entered service in the Confederate States of America. While home on leave in 1863, he was shot by a Union sympathizer. The bullet ricocheted off his chest and lodged in a doorframe. He recovered from his wounds; but when the home was later restored by one of his grandsons, the bullet hole was left visible to mark that incident in history.

In 1857 he married Mary Brady (8-20-1835 to 1-28-1885), daughter of Farley and Elizabeth Smith Brady.
