Lewis Alton Foote of 1301 Douglas St. Sioux City, died at his home on the morning of Nov 9, after an illness of several years. He was born in Madrid, N.Y. to parents Captain Orson Merrill Foote and Sena Sutton Jones. He attended district schools in Madrid then went to Potsdam Normal School, graduating from the classical course in 1881. That same year he was principal of the school at Gouverneur, N.Y. In 1882 he married Estelle Isabella Willson, daughter of Valorous W. Willson & Charlotte E. Foote, after which they went west to live in Scotland, S.D. A year later they settled in Kimball, S.D. While residing there their children were born, Orson Merrill Foote and Fred Willson Foote. He was also in the milling and banking business and served two terms in the Senate. In 1908 he and his family moved to Sioux City were he worked for the First National Bank until 1907 at which time he entered the Real Estate Business. In 1922 his health failed and at that time he retired from active work and was confined for the last 10 yrs. He has a brother Clark Merrill Foote of San Diego, CA and the late DR. Jesse J. Foote of Potsdam, N.Y. He is survived by his wife and two sons and 5 grandchildren, Chartelle Foote, of Omaha, NE, Merrill Jacob of Indiana, Fred Alton of Sioux City, Howard Vallery of Sioux City and Robert Clark of Rhode Island.
