LAVEDA (DURWOOD) ALEXANDER , age 80, of rural Chadwick, died Friday, September 3, 2004 at the CGH Medical Center Dialysis Unit, Sterling. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 7 at the Fairhaven United Methodist Church, Fairhaven, with Pastor Dave Davies officiating. Burial was in the Chadwick Cemetery. Visitations were held from 5­8 p.m. Monday, September 6 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established. LeVeda was born October 1, 1923 in Hanley, Saskatchewan Canada, the daughter of Clifford and Ruby (Milnes) Durward. She was a graduate of the York Community High School with the class of 1941. She attended Shimer College in Mt. Carroll. LaVeda married Vernon L. Alexander January 26, 1946 in Thomson. He died September 10, 2000 in Sterling. LaVeda was a homemaker most of her life. Her family was most important to her. She was called the "Family Historian." She was a member of the Fairhaven United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, a Republican Women Past President, a 4-H Leader and served on the Carroll County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. LaVeda is survived by three sons, Raymond (Barb), Keith (Camella) and Larry (Linda), all of Chadwick; a daughter, Karen (Dennis) Schriner of Lanark; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Cliff (Norma) Durward of Thomson. Her husband, Vernon, two brothers and two sisters, precede LaVeda in death.
