Engineer, inventor. Johnson invented weapon-stabilization systems used on airplanes and battleships in World War II and subsequent wars. He was a pioneer in the field of inertial weapons stabilization and guidance. An award given by BAE Systems, the Fritz Johnson Award for Engineering Excellence, was named for his honor in 1992. He died after suffering injuries from a fall in his home near the Binghamton University campus.
