On the night of 8th and morning of the 9th May, 1941 the German Luftwaffe targeted Nottingham City with more than 100 bombers dropping over 1,100 high explosive bombs killing 159 people.
The areas of Sneinton, Carlton, Colwick and West Bridgford were most affected,
a direct hit to the Co-op bakery on Meadow Lane killed 48 employees and one member of the Home Guard.
