Frederick Bruno Gocken, 87, died on a Friday afternoon at his home near Cedar Bluffs. He had been in ill health for the past year.

Funeral services were held at 2:30pm., Wednesday in the chapel of the Fred Bader funeral home. Rev. Roy Johnson of the Sinai Augustana Lutheran Church conducted the services, and burial was made in Ridge Cemetery.

Born in Wiarden, Oldenburg, Germany, Nov 15, 1859. Mr. Gocken was educated there and served in the German Navy, on the ship Victory, for four years. He was married to Antonia Margreta Buns at Wiarden, March 12, 1883.

The couple came to America in 1885 with their infant, son, Friedrich, settling first in Sterling, IL. Three years later they came to Saunders county where they made their home.

At the time of his death, he was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frieda Warner and Mrs. Ida Vanshur of Fremont, a son, Herman Gocken of Cedar Bluffs; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife who died Oct 23, 1933, by four daughters (Emma, Sophia, Matilda, and unknown), 2 sons (Friederich and Adolph), and one great grandchild (Noma Lee Vanshur).
