Information gleaned from the Fremont Evening Tribune dated Monday, May 20, 1935 as well as other sources:

Ocea Anna Seagle, 69, died Saturday, 18 May 1935, following an illness of several years. The funeral was held at the First Christian Church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev B.D. Baird officiating.

Ocea Anna Surface was born in Roanoke, Virginia in October 1865. She married James Henry Seagle in 1889 while living in Virginia and had resided in Fremont Nebraska for 15 years at the time of her death. Since the death of her husband in 1930, she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Lulu (Oscar) Johnson.

Surviving her at her death were eight children: Frank, of Willard, MO; Arthur of Springfield, MO; George, of Omaha; Mrs. Beulah (Louis) Davis, Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. Myrtle (Parker) Smith, Fremont; Mrs. Lulu (Oscar) Johnson, Fremont; and Mrs. Florence (George) Brown, Mead; 22 grandchildren, 4 brothers, James W. Surface, Charles Jefferson Surface, Franklin County, VA., Samuel David Surface, Marquette, KS., and Robert Milton Surface, McPherson, KS., and one sister, Mrs. Alzora Agnes Wells, residing in Virginia. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Emma Jane Lee (1874-1934) and Lula Ellen Dove (1875-1928).
