Built a castle-like home along the Santa Fe Trail in Wyandotte County, Kansas, which is well documented on other websites as Sauer Castle. The home is designated a Kansas City, Kansas Historic Landmark, and is on the Register of Historic Kansas Places and the National Register of Historic Places.

From various articles and family information, it is learned that Anton Sauer had several properties and businesses in the Kansas City area including: a fur-trading business, a tannery, part-owner of Crider-Sauer Grocers, a seed importing business near Fourth and Walnut, an overland freight hauling business from Kansas City to the Southwest which he operated with his sons, a riverboat which floated between Kansas City and St Louis to bring foods, seeds, fruits, flowers and plants to the area. He was also the president of the German Savings Association at 823 Main Street. Prior to settling in the Kansas City area he had been a bookkeeper in Russia, a merchant in Vienna, took business and buying trips to Paris, Italy, southern Europe, London, Australia, and Costa Rica.

Record of death not found, but several family references state that he suffered from tuberculosis even before he moved to Kansas City.
