HOWARD RAY ADAMS
OAKLEY - Howard Ray Adams, 93 year old Oakley resident died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley. He was born November 28, 1908, at the family homestead in Marion north of Oakley, the fourth son of George and Sarah Stoddleton Adams. He received his education in Marion. When Howard was eleven years old, his father died and left their mother to care for seven children. He married LaVaun Butler on December 26, 1933, in Burley. She preceded him in death on February 21, 1989, following 54 years of marriage. Howard was a dedicated husband and worker, always keeping himself busy. He and his wife were active members of the Boots and Slippers Square Dance Club in Kimberly. He started working on his home with his young family and still resided in that home at the time of his death. He was known as the "micey" man as he tried to keep the gophers out of the Oakley valley. He started Howard Adams and Sons farms, Butte Irrigation, and Golden Valley Warehouse. He fabricated a potato cutter and was always trying to make a better mouse trap! Following his retirement, he enjoyed travelling throughout the world with his wife and friends. He married LaRae Butler Barrus on May 17, 1989, in Oakley.
Survivors include his wife, LaRae of Oakley; a son, Dale (Sheila) Adams of Burley; a daughter, Eileen Becker of Burley; a daughter-in-law, Pat Adams of Burley; four stepdaughters, Jannine Barrus of Oakley, Shannon (Lawrence) Chapman of Boise, Lynn Moore of Silverdale, Washington, and Ranae (Dave) Kopet of Boise; a brother, Orvil Adams of Burley; a sister, Floy Urie of Twin Falls; seven grandchildren; sixteen step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Leon Adams; a son-in-law, George Becker; his parents; five brothers, Willard, Lyman, Ellsworth (Kelsey), Floyd, and Erwin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Oakley Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 North Center in Oakley, with Bishop Randy Hardy, officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery near Oakley. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main in Burley on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday.
