Rose Winnifred Treen was the last of the twelve children of the Reverend John William Treen (1840-1921) and Mary Ann (Bell) Treen (1843-1888).
Following John and Mary Ann's marriage on August 24, 1863 in London England, the couple settled in John's hometown in Rugby, Warwickshire, England. Sometime between May 1873 and November 1875, the family emigrated from England to Toronto, Canada where they remained until about 1886. Rose Winnifred was born on December 17, 1884 in Toronto. The family emigrated to the United States in 1886 and re-settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
