Robert McColl departed from this life Thursday evening, November 1, at his home in Webster, where he has lived, a respected citizen in the community, for over 70 years. Had he lived until December 14 he would have reached his 82nd birthday.
Of rugged Scotch ancestry, Mr. McColl showed unusual vigor for one of his advanced years, up to the time of his last illness, and it was almost a daily occurrence, often in the bleakest winter winter, to see him walking to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Scadin, two miles away. Since the marriage of his daughter he has lived at his farm with tenants, his wife having died in August, 1890. During his final sickness he was ministered onto most faithfully by his sons and daughters, all of whom visited him before the end came.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, November 3, at the Congregational church, the service being conducted by Rev. W. C. Allen, who has officiated at nearly all the solemn occasions of the family and who preached from the text, Job 5, 26, "Thou shalt come to the grave in a full age, like a shock of corn cometh in in his season."
Robert McColl was born in the village of Holmesburg, Pa., (now incorporated in the city of Philadelphia) on December 14, 1824. His father moved with his family in the spring of 1830 to the township of Northfield and in 1831 they moved to Webster, just east of the present location, which was added to the old homestead about the year 1805. On May 24, 1855, he was married to Sophia Latson and from this union was born seven children, four sons and three daughters, Ova, of Homer, Mrs. F. Artz, of Oregon, Ill., Irving, of New York city, Ray, of Windham, Ohio, Jay, of Detroit, and Mrs. W. R. Scandin and Miss Jennie McColl of Webster.
