Alonzo, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Mosher, was born near Oswego, New York, December 15, 1836; moved with his parents to Illinois when eleven years of age, residing there until he was twenty one. The family then came to Iowa, settling in Henry County, where he resided until the time of his death, January 24, 1906.
In 1861 he was untied in marriage with Martha Ratliff, who preceded him to the better world in 1882, leaving him with the care of ten children, some of whom were quite small. The children are all living and were all present at the bedside of their father during his last illness with the exception of one daughter. The children are: Ephraim R. Mosher, of Del Norte, Colorado; Mrs. Fred Forsythe, of Gregory, South Dakota; Mrs. Gerald Dillavou, of Mt. Union; Mrs. George Watts, Mrs. L. W. Barton, James, Amos, Ruth and Eva who reside in the vicinity of Salem.
During his sickness and suffering he was ever patient. He was a life long member of the Friends Church. The family have lost a kind and loving father, the community a good citizen.
