Robert S. Rains, a resident of Garfield for 36 years, died suddenly Saturday night at his home at the age of 65 years, one month and 20 days.
He had left the Rains store at Garfield during the supper hour to go home to do some chores. When he failed to return to the store at the usual hour, a search was begun and he was found in the barn at about 7:30 o'clock. He died an hour later. Death was due to a paralytic stroke.
Mr. Rains was born April 1, 1873, at Taber, Iowa. He had been a merchant during his entire residence in Garfield.
He is survived by a brother, John Rains, of Council Bluff, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Henry Miller of LaFountain, Kansas, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank Rains, with whom he made his home, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was unmarried.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church of which he was a member.
Pall bearers were: Carl Nystrom, Bob Carden, Homer Polson, Harold Nelson, Alfred Nelson and Reuben Hven.
