BAXTER -- Funeral services for Nellie Kay Roberts, 84 of Baxter, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 14, from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Burial will be in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today, Sunday, July 13; and after 11 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roberts died Friday, July 11, 2008, at her home.
She was born April 14, 1924, in Putnam County to the late James Oscar and Martha Ann Elizabeth Brown Lowe.
Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker. Before she raised a large family, she was a machinist, building airplanes and airplane parts during World War II. Mrs. Roberts was an amateur painter, poet and songwriter. She loved to work crossword puzzles, work in her flower garden and read.
Her family includes her husband of 65 years, Toy Roberts of Baxter (married Jan. 18, 1943); four daughter an sons-in-law, Jackie and Clark Thomas of Silver Point, Gina and Chuck Cox of Buffalo Valley, Jan and Gary Strausbaugh of Virginia, and Kay and Rick Lawson of Estill Springs; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Troy and Sharon Roberts, Larry and Kim Roberts, and Ricky Roberts, all of Baxter; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Philpot and Gladys Bryant; and a brother, Leonard Lowe.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Perry, Jerry and Mike Thomas, Jonathan, Joshua, Dustin and Kevin Roberts.
Bro. Ed Todd will officiate at the services.
