He served with the Army Engineers as a private during World War I, graduated from Canisius College in 1921 and entered Our Lady of the Angels Seminary at Niagara University. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo NY on March 7, 1925.
His first assignment was as assistant pastor of St. Mary of the Angels, Olean. Between 1927 and 1932, he served parishes in Dayton and Perrysburg and was Chaplain at J.N. Adam Hospital. Other assignments included St. Mary, Lancaster; Sacred Heart, Bowmansville; St. Paul, Kenmore; Holy Family and St. Mary Magdalene, Buffalo. Before his assignment in Swormville, he was pastor at St. Vincent, Springbrook.
Msgr. Bach was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
