SEVERN, Md. - Brig. Hazle Margaret Gilbert, 87, of Severn, and formerly of Williamsport, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born Sept. 4, 1916, in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Maj. Lewis Wiggins and Mary Sue Foster Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Brig. Robert Gilbert.

She was a 1937 graduate of The Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta. She retired from The Salvation Army in 1981 after 44 years of service.

She is survived by five children, F. Sue Munson-Main of Smithsburg, Robert H. Gilbert of Snellville, Ga., Hazel K. Sisk of Orlando, Fla., Nanette J. Carter of Chewsville and Albert L. Gilbert of Severn; one sister, Theda Elkins of Columbia, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Maj. Butch Mallard will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
