Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 8, at Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Randy Douglass will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Knox County 4-H. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born June 11, 1920 in Williamsfield, the son of Lloyd and Neva (Nelson) Smith. Survivors include two nephews, Dave (Pat) Doubet and Don (Judy) Doubet, both of Williamsfield, three nieces, Debbie Schwarz of Pekin, IL, Judy (Jon) Groesbeck of Tiburon, CA and Peggy (Dave) Kehe of Bellingham, WA, his deceased nephew's wife, Elaine Doubet of Williamsfield, and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Jean Dustin and Betty Doubet, a nephew, Dean Doubet and a great nephew, Ben.
Robert graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1938. He had farmed in the Williamsfield area and raised Hereford Cattle and hogs. He was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, where he had been Sunday School Superintendent and a teacher. He had been a 4-H Leader for 40 years and was a charter member of the Williamsfield Lions Club. He was also a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau and was the Alba Twp. Director of the bureau. In 1939 he was named a State FFA Farmer along with Dale Murdock of Williamsfield.
