Patriot Joseph Augustus Black fought in the Battles of Cowpens and Eutaw Springs, Revolutionary War.

Not long after the war, Joseph became partners with Jacob Stroup and Edmund Fewell. Together they founded the King's Mountain Iron Works near Blacksburg.
