Off. Unger and his partner were cruising in the area of Park Avenue & Preston Street. There had been a rash of taxicab robberies over the past months. They observed a man running in the area around 3 AM. The approached the man and asked him why he was running. Without saying a word he pulled a gun and shot Off. Unger in the head. The suspect was killed by Off. Unger's partner. Off. Unger was one week short of his 9th wedding anniversary. He was survived by his wife Edna May and two daughters.
