Son of Jewel R. and Calera (Brock) Denson. In his early years he was part of the family singing group, The Jewel Denson Family Gospel Singers. He met Edith Grace Massey (born 23 September 1926 in Lawrence County, TN) while they were both attending Martin Junior College in Pulaski TN, and they married on 25 May 1946. There were two children born to this union: Dr. Marion Edward Denson (born 9 November 1947 and who published a book on the Denson Families in America, 1997) and Debra Jean Denson (born 13 August 1951, both in Lawrenceburg, TN. He graduated with a B.S. degree from Athens State College in Athens AL in 1951 and decided to become a minister in the Methodist faith, taking a Methodist church in Prospect TN. He then enrolled in the Vanderbilt School of Divinity, graduating in 1953. He pastored at many Methodist churches in Middle Tennessee until he suffered a stroke in 1969 that forced him to retire.
