DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN
Major Samuel Marshall M’Gehee Died This Morning About 7:45 O’clock of a Cancer.
Major Samuel Marshall McGehee died this morning about 7:45 o’clock at the home of his son, Mr. F. O. McGehee, on West Sixth Avenue. He had been confined to his bed for the past five years and about six months ago a cancer was discovered on his lower lip, and this caused his death.
Major McGehee was 72 years of age on the first of September, 1900. He had been a resident of the state for the past forty years, living at Double wells, in this county.
He leaves a widow, who was his second wife, a daughter, Mrs. A. B. Craig of Double Wells, and two sons, Dr. M. M. McGehee of Savannah, Ga., and Mr. F. O. McGehee of this city, who is general land agent for the Sawyer & Austin Lumber Co.
During his lifetime Major McGehee was a prominent and valuable citizen of the county, but on account of his long confinement to his bed and his suffering, death was doubtless a welcome visitor.
His remains will be buried at Locust Cottage Wednesday, the services to be by Rev. J. F. Carr.
