Geo. W. Harvey
We lament to record the death of Mr. George W. Harvey, which occurred at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. J. Ford Griffith, at Sweet Springs, this county, on Tuesday morning last, Feb. 22, 1910, at 3:15 o'clock, after the illness of only four days of bronchial troubles. Mr. Harvey was born and reared in Monroe County and his age was 76 years, four months and 20 days. He was a brave and dutiful Confederate soldier, serving in the 60th Va. Infantry. As a citizen he was exemplary, as a man modest and kindly, a faithful friend and a loving husband and father. Mr. Harvey was not a member of any church, but was at peace with his Maker and professed his readiness to obey His summons. He is survived by one son, Mr. Luther Harvey of New York, and five daughters, Mrs. Griffith, Mrs. Lon Hepler of White Sulphur, Mrs. Weller Shanklin of Ronceverte, Mrs. John A. Goodall of Gap Mills, and Mrs. Josie Harvey of Sweet Springs. His burial took place yesterday morning at 11 o'clock in Sweet Springs cemetery, Rev. J.H. Watkins conducting the funeral service. May the old veteran's rest be sweet!
