John Lindsay was 397ST , Royal Naval Reserves, 'HMS ' Alert' leading trimmer (Turkish prisoner - Died of sunstroke on 15 July 1916 and is buried in Plot 3, Row A, Grave 19 in Basra War Cemetery,Iraq.Its possible he volunteered to join the river steamer Julnar on a suicidal attempt to get supplies through to Kut-al-Amara and died of illness along with others from HMS Alert.
*He was the son of John Lindsey B.Liverpool 1842 (was also a soldier private 69th regt. barracks St.John Cardiff 1881) & mother Emma Lindsey(Mottram ??) B.London-Middlesex 1842.His family was from Cardiff,Wales. John was Born Dec 1868 at barracks, Montreal,Canada.He also had a son Arthur Lindsay ,73229, serving with the 9th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers, died 27, June 1918, age 18 of TB and is buried Plot EA , Grave NC2058 in Cardiff(Cathays)Cemetery son of Elizabeth Anne Lindsay(James) widow at 5 Gladys St, St Andrew,Cardiff Wales.Elizabeth Lindsay(James)immigrated to Regina , Saskatchewan Canada in 1925 and died in 1934 at Regina.
