☆~ VETERAN, KOREAN WAR (1950-1953) ~☆

M. Gene Simmons, 77, of Grand Island died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at his home. Gene was born June 24, 1933, at Kenesaw to Arthur and Olive (Kindig) Simmons.

Survivors are: wife, Janice Simmons of Grand Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Simmons of Alliance, Bob Simmons of Bandera, TX, Randy and Connie Simmons of Kenesaw and Brian and Gina Simmons of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Rich Weichman of Juniata, Jeannie and Doug Powell of Kenesaw, Angie and Tom Uden of Wilber; stepdaughters and stepson-in-law, Suzanne Behrle of Grand Island and Sherri and Mark Sanchez of Central City; sister, Caroline Pence of Hastings; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Gene grew up and attended school in Juniata. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1953 to May 1955. He married Jan Smith in 1954 at Hastings. He married Janice Hargens on Jan. 7, 1977, at Grand Island.

Gene farmed for several years and then worked as a truck driver for Norbert Turk Trucking, Ted Smith Trucking, Bob Stubby Trucking and most recently was employed part-time at Bochart Farms at Rockville.

Gene enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and raising sweet corn to give to his friends.

He was a member of the Platt Duetsche Society, the Eagles and American Legion.
