"Mattie" Cary Edwards was born on March 19, 1854, in Muhlenberg County, KY. Her father was Lockey A. Cary (1805-1857) and her mother was Quinney Bass (1809). Mattie was almost blind when she died with tuberculosis in 1889 and was buried in the Thayer Cemetery, Sangamon County, IL. Mattie married Jonathan Howell Edwards on August 17, 1871. Their children were William Nicholas (1872-1958), Corrine M. (b. 1874) Jacob Henry (1878-1962), Sarah Ellen (1879-1952) & Lela May (d. 1862).
