ROCHESTER - Rhonda Kay Palmer, 59, passed away Tuesday. Rhonda is survived by her parents, Tom and Ladonna Nicklaus; a sister, Rhea (Russell) Sherwood; very special friends at Good Sam's Camper Chapter #13 (Sycamore Sam's) & Chapter #47 (Lake City Sam's). A celebration or life will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Rhonda K. Palmer, May 31, 1951-Sept. 21, 2010, Rhonda Kay Palmer entered to eternal rest Tuesday at the home of her parents, Tom and Ladonna Nicklaus, after a three-year battle with cancer.
Rhonda was born May 31, 1951, in Rochester. She grew up in Fulton County and was a 1969 graduate of Rochester High School. Rhonda was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. Later she was employed as a computer software programmer for 21 years. After deciding to pursue a degree in business, Rhonda, a dedicated student, graduated from the University of Houston in May of 1991 earning a B.A. in business. Rhonda recently returned from Houston to make her home in Indiana. Enjoying crafts and working with her hands, Rhonda returned to Rochester each fall and contributed some of her customized works to be showcased at the Fulton County Craft Show. She especially liked crocheting afghans and slipper socks, many times creating a special gift treasured by family and friends. Her beadwork was extraordinary creating purses and jewelry. Rhonda also enjoyed the friendships she made with her fellow Red Hatters of the Red Hat Society.
Rhonda is survived by her parents, Tom and Ladonna Nicklaus, Rochester; a sister, Rhea Sherwood and husband Russell, Missouri, Texas; very special friends, Bob and Deb Domke, Rochester, Jim and Dottie Thornhill, Garland, Texas, Andy Logan, Katy, Texas, and Good Sam's Camper Chapter No. 13 (Sycamore Sam's) and Chapter No. 47 (Lake City Sam's); co-workers Debbie, Lan, Dahai, Cynthia, Dawn, Jason, Pam, Amy and Irma, all of Houston, Texas; and canine companion Gabby, a silver schnauzer. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald J. "Nick" Nicklaus, in 2005; her grandparents, Lester and May Heckathorn and Duane and Lucille Nicklaus; and an uncle, Louis Heckathorn. A celebration of the life of Rhonda K. Palmer will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Chaplain Martha Cory officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.
