Deceased Name: JOHN H. AMIRAULT

John H. "Tony" Amirault, 77, of 136 West St., died Thursday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a patient since Tuesday.

Mr. Amirault was a millwright at St. Regis Paper Co., Deferiet, for 15 years and then was a meat cutter for more than 20 years, working at A&P, Acme and P&C, retiring in the early 1990s. After retiring, he was a greenskeeper at Ives Hill Golf Course, Watertown, for five years.

Born April 11, 1930, in Boston, Mass., son of Roy D. and Marie M. Pothier Amirault, he graduated from high school in East Boston, Mass.

He entered the Army on May 18, 1948, served overseas in Guam and later at Camp Drum, and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He married Frances E. Carney of Black River on Aug. 23, 1952, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Quinn officiating. The couple had resided in Black River since their marriage.

Mr. Amirault was a very active member of Black River United Methodist Church, a member of its choir and a lay speaker. He also was a member of Black River American Legion and Black River Owls racing team and a former member of the Black River Fire Department.

Among his survivors, besides his wife, are a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Jo and Louis J. Mitchell, Watertown, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Black River United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Levesque, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bruce Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to Black River Ambulance Squad or Black River United Methodist Church.
