Bessie Welch and Hayden Madison (Dock) Williams were married on June 18, 1911 near Vance in Real County Texas. Their first child, Landas Hayden (1912) was born near Patricia Texas. They were living in a covered wagon while picking cotton (most likely) and Bessie went into labor. Dock went to get the doctor but before he could return with the doctor, Bessie delivered the baby herself. She was just 16 years old at the time. Landas was always called "her miracle baby" since she delivered him herself.

Dock and Bessie had ten additional children; Clyde Keith (1914), Edna Lee (1915), Bonnie Molete (1917), Lonnie Trellis (1919), Jessie Cedric (1921), Delbert (1923) (killed in WWII), Marshall Victor (1925), Lahoma Lowell (1927), William Maurice (1929), and D.M. (1931).

Dock died shortly before their 11th child, D.M. (1931) was born. Bessie proceeded to raise her family by herself; she was a remarkable woman. She later married Charles Calvin Brothers and it was through their efforts in 1946 that the Welch Reunion became an annual event in Christoval Texas. The Reunion continued to be held in Christoval until the Summer of 2007 at which time it was moved to Uvalde County Texas near Montell.

Bessie and Mr. Brothers are buried in Lamesa Memorial Park Cemetery, Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas. It is believed that Dock is buried there also.
