WILLIAM CUTHBERT POWELL

William Cuthbert Powell, 73 years old, died yesterday at his home, 3106 Douglas Street. Mr. Powell was born at Middleburg, Va. He was graduated from the Virginia Military Institute, served in Company I, Engineers, in the Confederate Army, and after the war taught mathematics in the Virginia Military Institute. He came to Texas in 1873 to take a position in the engineering department of the Texas & Pacific Railroad, which was then under construction.

In 1887 Mr. Powell severed his connection with the railroad and engaged in ranching and banking at Baird, Texas. Two years ago he retired from business and, purchasing a home in Dallas, came here to spend his declining years.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Powell; four daughters, Mrs. Harriett Powell and Misses Lily, Cuthbert, and Daisy, and four sons, W. C. Powell, Jr. of St. Louis, F. W. Powell of Fort Worth, L. H. Powell with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad, and J. B. Powell in the United States Navy, now at home on a furlough.

Funeral service will be held in the Church of the Incarnation, McKinney Avenue and Harwood Street, at 4 o'clock this afternoon, Bishop Alexander Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
