Dow Casselman was the son of Henry J. and his wife, Effie Merkely. He was born in Canada but came to NY in while in his teens. He lived almost 50 years in St. Lawrence county where he was a well known and much respected farmer. In 1877 he married Anna Martin of Lisbon. They appear to have spent some of their early married life in Canada, as they appear in the 1881 census in Dundas, Ontario with their first son, John Henry.
Dow was survived by his wife, and his three children, John H., Dow Jr, and Epha.
