She was a native of Charleston, SC, and a daughter of Jane Williams-Smith Mays and the late Derrill F. Williams. Leigh was an executive legal secretary and an active member, teacher and pianist for Bethel Baptist Church. She was a beloved member of her community and a frequent volunteer at the John Edward Harter Nursing Center. Leigh loved music, her church, her family and her children were her pride and joy. Leigh was living proof that good things come in little packages.
She is survived by her husband, Maxwell A. Harter, Jr. of Fairfax, SC; one daughter, Maria K. Harter of Fairfax, SC; one son, Christopher A. Harter of Fairfax, SC; mother, Jane Williams-Smith Mays of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Teena W. Martindale and Tamara J. (TJ) Thompson, both of Charleston, SC; and niece, Jayne Anne Cox of Charleston, SC.
