Bootsie Griffin was born in Swainsboro, Georgia, December 7, 1925, to Robert and Mamie Faircloth. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Miami, Florida. In July 1944, she met James Alexander Griffin at the USO in Miami, Florida, where she had grown up even though she was a native of Georgia. They were married in Alameda, California, on January 6, 1945. Mrs. Griffin attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband were appointed as missionaries in February, 1975, by the Metropolitan Missions Department of the Home Mission Board. Bootsie taught preschool around the United States; she was a "Preschool Specialist." The Griffins were truly missionaries, working in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and Texas. Bootsie and James moved to Kilgore in 1987 where they were active members of the First Baptist Church. They continued their Mission work while in Kilgore volunteering for Mission Service Corps. and assisting in Bi-Vocational Ministers.
She is survived by her, daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Perkins of Kilgore; daughter-in-law, Laney Griffin of Leesburg, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jimbo Griffin of Little Rock, Arkansas, Penni Perkins of Greenville, and Jana Perkins of Kilgore; three great-grandchildren, Joshua James Perkins of Greenville, James Ryan Griffin of San Antonio, and Josh Thomas Griffin of San Antonio; nephew, Buddy Faircloth; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James A. Griffin; son, James E. Griffin; granddaughter, Rhonda Carroll Griffin; parents, Doc and Mamie Faircloth; sister, Dean Faircloth; and brother, Warren Faircloth.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 4-6 p.m.
