Gayla was born on May 3, 1936 in Springfield the daughter of Charles and Margaret Hummel Harter, Sr. She married David Ackerman on April 30, 1955.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, four brothers and five nephews.
She is survived by four sons, Leroy (wife, Linda) Ackerman of Taylorville, Bill (wife, Linda) Ackerman of Collinsville, Ok, Ed Ackerman of Nokomis, Steve Ackerman of Taylorville; one daughter, Sharon Casteel (life partner, Judy) of Springfield; one brother, James (wife, Luella) Harter of Mazomanie, WI; two sisters, Bertha McConnell of Taylorville, Erma (husband, Dale) Copenbarger of Mt. Auburn; twelve grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 109 E. Washington, Edinburg. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 109 E. Washington, Edinburg with Reverend Ray Radae officiating. Burial will follow in Edinburg Cemetery.
