GOLDA FLORENCE RICKEY

Golda Florence, eldest daughter of Robert F. and Elizabeth Ryan Palmer, was born March 13, 1882, in Lucas county, Iowa, and passed away at Grundy Center, Iowa, on November 28, 1945, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 15 days.

When she was about three years old, she moved with her parents to Kansas for a short time, returning to Lucas county, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood and was married in 1899 to L. H. Rickey, of Cambria, Iowa.

To this union two children were born, a son, Orval A. Rickey, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and a daughter, Mrs. Lois Neumann, of Grundy Center, Iowa.

In 1917, she and her children moved to a farm in Wayne county, later moving to Chariton, Iowa, where she was employed by the Spurgeon Mercatile Company for a number of years. She then moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and did practical nursing until her daughter's marriage and she has made her home with them since that time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Palmer.

She leaves to mourn their loss her devoted children, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rickey and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Neumann, also eight grandchildren, Joyce, Marian, Karl, Evelyn and Danny Neumann, Roger Rickey, recently honorably discharged from the Air Corps, Robert Rickey, of Ft. Dodge; Mrs. Bernadine Thompson of Rantaul, Illinois.

Also surviving are her two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Kirk, of Derby, Iowa, and Mrs. Ethel Tatman, of Allerton, Iowa; three brothers, C. G. Palmer, of Chariton, Iowa; W. E. Palmer, of Portland, Oregon; R. R. Palmer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Rickey united with the Christian church at Humeston, Iowa, where she retained her membership. She was a member of the Mission Union, of the Baptist church in Grundy Center and regularly attended the services of that church since moving there in 1935.

All who knew Mrs. Rickey are sincerely grieved by her tragic death. Her courageous spirit, her kind and charitable disposition made all her acquaintances love and repect her. Her devotion to her family dominated her activities. In her grandchildren she found her greatest happiness.

A brief service was held at the Englekes funeral home in Grundy Center, Iowa, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Dec. 2, with funeral services at the Baptist church in Chariton at 2:30 in the afternoon, conducted by the Rev. E. F. Partridge. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
