Gene Alton Welch, 73, DeLand, FL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gene is survived by Edna Welch, his wife of 30 years; his three children, Terri Bennett, Richard Welch and Steven Welch; five grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Heather, Tony and Blake; and seven great-grand-children, Jordan, Jayda, Nirvana, Gage, Seth, Brandon and Aleya.
Gene is also survived by his extended family of six children, Karen Kremer, Darlene Niles, Linda McLane, Pamela Fretwell, Richard Harris and Chuck Roach; 16 grandchildren, Ronald, Geoffrey, Adam, Amanda, Sarah, Luke, Joe, Jena, Leslie, Justin, Joshua, Charles, April, Erica, Jesse and Matt; and seven great-grandchildren, Crissia, Brian, Briley, Kyra, Reiley, Tyler and Jonathan. Also, daughters-in-law, Susan, Alicia, Vicky and son-in-law, John; his brothers, W.L. and Donnie; and sisters, Olabell, Shirley, Jimmie Ruth, Linda and Cindy.
Gene was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in DeLeon Springs, FL and enjoyed spending time with his family and loved telling a great story. He was also a member of the Welch Family Gospel Singers. He was a gentle man and will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him. If love could have saved Gene, he would have lived forever.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home DeLand. The service will be Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy. Brother Ray Chandler and Rev. Jessie Roland will officiate. Interment will be at Pinehurst Cemetery in DeLeon Springs following the service. Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
