Francis S. "Boots" Catania, former owner of Diamond Cab Co., died of lung cancer at his Bel Air home at the age of 71. He retired in 1986 from the West Baltimore Cab Company that was founded by his father and where he had worked for more than 30 years. Born in Little Italy, Maryland, he was a 1942 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School of Baltimore and attended Loyola College.

During WWII, he served with the Marines in the Pacific and was discharged at war's end. He was a longtime communicant of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, where he was an usher and member of the Holy Name Society.

In 1948, he married Edith Walters, who passed in 1994. He is survived by a son, John Catania, Lin Bleakely, Fran Tebo, Angel Gunther, and Helen Norman and his four sisters, Verna Smith, Helen Levy, Janet Fisher and Connie Panzer and two grandsons.
