Dorthy "Miss Dottie" L. Stafford, age 77, passed away on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010. She was born June 28, 1933 in Wakarusa, IN, to the late J. Olen and Martha Smeltzer. Miss Dottie is survived by her husband of 54 years, John W. Stafford; son, Mark; daughters, Julie and Jane and six grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Elma Truen of Bradenton, FL, Lena Pettiford of Louisville, OH and Edna Green of Wakarusa. Miss Dottie graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1951 and earned her RN license in 1955 from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend. She moved to Tampa, FL, in 1969 where she was active in the University of South Florida Women's Club and the Lake Magdalene Garden Club. She taught Sunday School and directed a church nursery school. She loved to sew and finished many quilts, dresses and doll clothes for her family, friends and charity; winning numerous awards at the Florida State Fair. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano and organ, singing, gardening, television, playing games and traveling. To all who knew her she will be dearly missed as a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Funeral service will be at the Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, 309 College Street and County Road 466-A at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. She will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
