Thursday, June 9, 1927. John Meyer, 81, was found dead in bed at his home here last Thursday evening. The body was discovered by a son, Henry. Deceased was born in Germany and came to this country when a young man.

He was married to Miss Hedwig Kautzer, who died in childbirth, and later to Miss Mary Kautzer, who died a number of years ago. He is survived by three children, Henry of St. Nazianz, Matthew of Ladysmith, and Mrs. Hattie Muehlhauer of Kiel. The funeral services were held Monday.

Mayer, John A. (had named changed to Mayer) (May 9, 1849-June 3, 1927 –husband of Hedwig Kautzer [married May 11, 1880 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –after Hedwig died in 1884, John re-married to Maria Kautzer [married Aug. 4, 1885 at St. Gregory –Marie was a younger sister to John’s first wife, Hedwig Kautzer –his second wife Marie then died on Nov. 20, 1890] –son of Joseph Meyer and Anna Coll –born Bavaria –farmer in Town of Eaton –on June 10, 1882 purchased the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 22, Town of Eaton and created a farmstead at 20423 Carstens Lake Road –on Oct. 12, 1883 purchased the 20 acres of the N1/2 of the NW1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 22, which increased John’s farm to 60 acres –on April 18, 1887 purchased the 20 acres of the E1/2 of the NW1/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 15, Town of Eaton –on Nov. 25, 1893, John Meyer [now a widower for the second time] sold this 80 acre farm to Michael Meyer and his wife Theresia Knier –in 1918 John retired from farming and moved to St. Nazianz –on June 11, 1918 purchased the communal house at 202 Church Street in St. Nazianz –lived here until selling in Jan. of 1922 –died from “old age –senility –myocarditis”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 3, Row 6, Lot 1 –stone] [first marriage record Manitowoc 4-163] [second marriage record Manitowoc 5-263] [death record Manitowoc 23-201]
