Doyce graduated from Lexington High School in 1959 and played on their sports teams. He then moved to Indianapolis in 1960, where he was employed by RCA for 14 years and then Allison Transmission, where he retired and became a member of Local 933. Doyce loved southern gospel music and helped promote the Phipps Gospel Sing for 16 years and booked the Gospel Sings at Landmark Baptist Church in Indianapolis for 25 years, where he was a member. He was currently attending Faith Baptist Church.
Doyce was preceded in death by his wife, Ammense Jane McMurtrey; mother, Mattlean McMurtrey; father, Willie D. McMurtrey and step father, Dee Simpson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura McMurtrey; sons, Roger, Curtis and Jerry; daughters, Sandy, Ladona and Sherri; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm with a funeral service at 12:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
