Deceased was born in New York City, Feb. 11, 1861, and was married to Margaret Ruplinger in 1882, who died in 1892.
In 1894 he married Magdalena Zoellner, who survives him, with five children by his first wife, as follows, Mrs. Stephan Stiefvater of Liberty, Mrs. Math Meyer of St. Nazianz, Sister M. Antoinetta C.S.A., of Decatur, Ind., Josephine Gerhard of Eaton and Alex on the homestead farm. He also leaves one brother, Rev. A. J. Gerhard and three sisters, Miss Helen and Mary Gerhard, and Mrs. Rosa Baumgartner, all of St. Nazianz.
Mr. Gerhard, who formerly owned a farm near here, had been a resident of St. Nazianz for some time, and was highly respected by all who knew him.
The funeral was held Saturday morning, services taking place at St. Gregory’s church, Rev. A. J. Gerhard, a brother of the deceased, officiating.
