William Houston Brewer was born on February 21, 1834 in Gladeville, Wilson County, Tennessee to William Thomas Brewer (1807-1881) and Sarah Hansborough Brewer (1807-1839). He married Eliza Evaline Myers (1834-1871) on January 4, 1855. Together they had 6 children, 4 survived infancy. The children are:
Susanna Ann Brewer Hewgley (1856-1950)
James Greene "Jim" Brewer, Sr. (1859-1926)
John H. Brewer (1861-1861)
Thomas Washington Brewer (1863-1910)
Infant (1864-1864)
William Houston Brewer, Jr. (1866-1925)

He then married Elizabeth Jane Fuller (1853-1903) on April 4, 1872. They came to Texas between 1872 and 1880. Together they had 12 children:
