Lou was in a wheel chair for a large portion of his life, and never married. In his latter years he attended Paradise Bible Fellowship in Paradise, PA, and accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour. He was an elder of the church and had taught Sunday School classes there as well.
Some of his hobbies included collecting baseball cards that he cataloged on his new IBM compatible computer; collecting series glass plates; and he was a short wave radio operator for many years. He wrote his own Autobiography.
In the WELSCH lineage, Lou is the 3rd of 4 people to be named 'Louis Henry WELSCH.' The PA state birth certificate has him as the "IV." The first was his paternal grandfather (Sr.), then his paternal uncle (Jr.), then himself in 1914 (a grandson to Sr.); and finally his first cousin (III), who was named after his own father (Jr.) in 1918 (also a grandson to Sr.).
