Roscoe Cochran. whose address was listed as Kennedy Hotel, was found dead in a Shelby County Jail cell at 7:30 a.m. today by sheriff deputies as the prisoners were preparing for breakfast.
Acting County Coroner Dr. James Tower said death apparently was due to a coronary attack.
Mr. Cochran was jailed Monday on a public intoxication charge and was serving a five day sentence in default of payment of $1 and costs fine imposed in city court. He also had received a suspended penal farm sentence. Mr. Cochran reportedly had been in failing health for some time and Dr. Tower said he apparently had been dead about three hours when found.
Formerly a carpenter, Mr. Cochran was born in Washington Township on Oct. 24. 1900 , the son of Grodus Cochran and Flora (McCarty) Cochran.
His early life was spent in the Lewis Creek community and he attended the Lewis Creek Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Mr. Cochran was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two sisters. Mrs. Hazel Trimble of Greenfield and Mrs. Helen Hastings of Indianapolis, and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carmony Funeral Home here.
Friends may call at the mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Friday.
Burial will be in the Tindall Cemetery.
