Goldie Loretta Frey, one of fourteen children of Maude Ellen (Hudson) and Daniel S. Erwin, was born July 30, 1910 on the farm north of Guide Rock, Nebraska. She departed this life on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 29 days.

She received her formal education attending rural school district #83 and the Eckley consolidated school. On August 31, 1929 she was united in marriage with William Frey, Jr. This union was blessed with two sons, George and Gerald. They made their home on the farm near Mt. Clare, and then in the St. Stephens area south of Lawrence. They farmed the Frey farm for 37 years, and due to Bill's failing health, they left the farm and moved to the Glen Ely place east of Guide Rock. After Bill's death on October 7, 1966, she moved into town to live, and began her eight years of employment with Don Abernathy's greyhound kennels.

Goldie's personality was pervaded by a strong and determined work ethic. She was happiest when she was busy, and she could always be found working around the house and in her yard. In her younger years, she broke and rode horses for many years. She always loved her years on the farm and enjoyed helping Bill with the farm work.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bill; sisters, Cleora Heinz; Edna Gleason, and Marie Erwin; and brothers, Oscar, Delbert, Russell, Edmond, Floyd, Charles and George Erwin.

Surviving are her sons, George Frey and wife Eileen of Roy, Utah; and Gerald "Butch" Frey and wife Charlotte of Guide Rock, Nebraska; four grandchildren. Kelly Frey, Gary Frey, Angela Montgomery, and Connie Walter; eight great grandchildren; five step children; eleven step great-grandchildren; a brother, Herchel Erwin of Bakersfield, California; two sisters, Elsie Tyson of Gresham, Oregon and Emma Kay Barney of San Diego, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
