Begay died Sept. 22, 2010, in Albuquerque. He was born March 24, 1959, in Fort Defiance, into the Charcoal Streaked Division of the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Begay graduated from Window Rock High School in 1977. He received the honor to play with the North Arizona All-star team for baseball. He then worked with NECA as time keeper. He attended U of A, UNM Colleges where he received his degree. Begay was employed with NHA as contracting officer and Budget Analysist for Design and Engineering and Head Start Program. He was also the coach for the notorious "Fort Boyz" where he played reservation wide, Zuni and throughout the state of New Mexico. Begay was a loving father, husband, brother and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Begay; sons, Scott R. Begay, Kyle Watchman, Glynn Peaches; daughters, Jacquelyn A. Begay, Christen Peaches, Janelle R. Begay, Robyn Peaches; father, Jimmie M. Begay; brothers, Thurman L. Begay, Patrick McCabe, Arval McCabe, Henry McCabe Jr., Edmund Ciccarello; sisters, Debra Redsteer, Sharon Redsteer, Karen McCabe, Marilyn Lodewyk, Isabelle Anderson; grandparents, Nasbah Begay, Carl Begay, David McCabe Sr.; six grandchildren.
Begay was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie V. Begay.
Pallbearers will be Ed Becenti, Allison Begay, Darrell Banward, Norman Tsosie, Ron Hoskie, Richard Kaaloa.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fort Defiance Chapter House, following services.
