Pte Anderson embarked from Melbourne with the 8th Reinforcements, 7th Battalion, aboard HMAT Anchises (A68) on 26 August 1915. During his service Anderson achieved the rank of Lieutenant. In April 1918 he received gunshot wounds to the head and back. He partially recovered and returned to Australia on 24 August 1918. Roy Anderson died of complications from his wounds at the Caulfield Military Hospital, Melbourne, on 14 January 1919.
