Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Moline, or Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Leo was born June 18, 1920, in New Salem Township, Ill., son of Gale and Bulah Luella Coyner Aten. He married Marjorie Viola Joelson Jan. 30, 1943, at Bethany Baptist Church, Moline. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2005.
Leo was a tool and die maker at John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline for 36 years, retiring on Aug. 1, 1983. He also taught tool and die apprentices for 17 years for the Davenport School System and later at Scott Community College.
He was an U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II, and he was also a retired CWO4 from the Naval Air Reserve. He was a member of American Legion Post 246, Moline. Leo was a member of the IAM Union 1215, East Moline, Moline Lodge 1014 AF & AM, and Thor Lodge 9 Independent Order of Vikings.
Leo was a member of First Baptist Church, Moline. When his son was a youth, he coached Dad's Club baseball, Moline Park Board basketball and flag football.
Survivors are daughter, Marcia (husband, Mike) Ungs, Loveland, Colo.; son, Norman (wife, Angie) Aten, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Meagan and Mallory Ungs, Erica, Olivia and Tyler Aten; sisters, Doris Pells, Rock Island, Betty Beezley, California. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Carl and Donald Aten.
